Patience

This is going to be a new format. I’m adding devotions to my website so that it’s hopefully easier for some of you to read (other than a text). I’ll just text out a link. This way I don’t flood your texting app. The new format will have a word of the day (WOD) and verse of the day (VOD). It’s pretty much how I do my study and devotion time in the morning. Enjoy!

Word of the Day: Patience

Verse of the Day: 1 Timothy 6:11  But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

I am doing a nightly devotion with Ashley and conveniently enough the first one was on patience! I have zero patience. Not even a speck. So I thought what a great idea for me to do a devotion on patience. Ugh.  The truth is, God has been teaching me patience for just over a year and a half.

The dictionary defines patience as:

The ability to accept or tolerate delay, trouble or suffering without getting angry or upset.

Geesh!

However, the Bible commands patience and relates it to kindness and love. It is listed as a character trait of a man of God.

Patience is a good thing - even though I see it some times as a bad thing. It’s a necessary discipline.  It’s referred to in the Bible alongside tribulation.

I used to pray for patience until I realized that God has a way of working patience into your life. And sometimes patience comes as a result of tribulations. And Christians know that it is not really our timing, but God’s timing.

2Peter 1:6  And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

Romans 15:5  Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

James 1:3-4

James 5:10-11

So I keep praying for patience regardless of the tribulations that come along with it.
