Glory

Word of the Day: Glory

Verse of the Day: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:31‬

This one stuck out to me so boldly this morning - think about all the stuff we do each day that doesn't glorify God.

Ask yourself;

Does your work glorify God?

Do your friendships?

Your social media?

How about your lifestyle and choices we make?

How about your thought life? Your prayer life?

The verse says "do all".

That is a pretty direct and humbling command.  No room for personal interpretation there.

There are days when I sit and think about this for me. There are episodes throughout some days when I haven’t given God His glory. There are days when I let my frustration get the best of me. Or the days when I don’t let God’s Will provide the way. As hard as we try sometimes, it’s not hard enough. Sometimes it seems as if it’s easier for others. At the end of some days I sit and question wether the things I did, did they truly give God glory?  Some days just seem impossible.

And where it says “do all” - that’s tough. That encompasses everything you do.  ALL of it. It’s impossible, it really is - because of our sin nature - but imagine if we actually tried because it gave God the glory. Imagine our actions if God was physically standing next to us or sitting next to us in the car. Or if He was reading what we wrote or standing next to us while we were talking.

Paul wrote this in the context of wether we eat or drink or whatsoever we do - he said no matter what we do, even eating or drinking - do it so God gets the glory! Something as little as eating or drinking should glorify God.

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:18‬

Paul’s life glorified God. But it didn’t start out that way. Think about this, Paul was formerly Saul - he persecuted Christians. He directed or participated in theirs murders, yet we read his writing, observations and teachings because he believed in God and discipled others.

What about your life? It doesn’t matter how you start, it’s how you finish. One day you will stand before God.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:19‬
