Time

Word of the Day: Time

Verse of the Day: “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

‭‭James‬ ‭4:14‬

Time is such a commodity. We always want things quicker, in less time. Nothing is fast enough. We are always in a rush.  When we were younger, we had all the time in the world. As we get older, there isn’t much time left.

We never have enough time for things. We never have enough time with loved ones, or on projects or our days aren’t long enough.  We regret not spending more time doing this or that. Why is it that the things we enjoy seem to go by quicker and the things we dislike take forever to be done with. Microwaves aren’t fast enough and we are always running late. Hurry hurry hurry.

We take time for granted. We think of the time here in this world as a gauge of how well we’ve done. We say something like “I’ve live a good life”. Everything is a measure of time. We’ve placed so much importance on it.  There is one single certainty about time, once you’ve used it, you can’t get more of it. You can’t rewind it. You can’t add more. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

It’s temporary. At least here. As John said, it is even a vapour.

Think about all the things you’ve made important with the time you’ve had. Or all the things you’ve done with your time.

I know the single most greatest regret I’ve had in my life, is I’ve wasted a lot of time. I know I can’t go back and fix it, so I don’t stay on that thought long. But if I sit back and think about all the times I could’ve spent more time doing something else then the things I’ve done - wow. Just wow.

This is why my push is stronger now. For me anyways. This isn’t about making up for lost time. Or fixing anything. This is about building a relationship and sharing that relationship with as many people as possible. This about putting God at the front of my time.

Sure we can live to work. Work to live. Spend all our time on ourselves. But in the end, where does that really get us?

We’ve made time so important that it controls us. I struggle with this. Certain aspects of time frighten me. I get overwhelmed, anxious and then frustrated. All because of time.

But there is an eternity. And because we worry so much about our time here, it makes me doubt our belief in eternity.

Build your relationship with God every day. You know the ways to do it, stop wasting the time you have. Show people how important God is to you by being an example. Read the Bible with family. Pray with friends. Invite someone to church. Isn’t your eternity worth sharing?

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭13:11‬

“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:16‬
