George Who? (#192)

George Who?

“John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭3:16‬

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭4:18-19‬

Born February 22, 1732 in British America. He and his wife adopted one child. He was a military officer, farmer and politician.

Oh, and he was the first president of the United States of America. His name is George Washington.

Anyone alive today has never met George Washington in person. We’ve never heard him talk, watched any movies with him in them or looked at photographs of him.

George Washington was alive during an era before photography, motion pictures or audio and video recordings. Yet, we have no doubt he existed.

As history from his era lengthens, our memory weakens. We need so little, to be assured of much. We require more proof to believe in less. And in some cases, we need less proof, to believe more.

There is evidence that he was alive, proof that he existed and eyewitness accounts of his life.  His presence is still around today. His face is on American currency.  His portrait and signature are included in many books and historical documents.

George Washington was one of the most famous historical figures ever.  And still, everyone alive today has never ever looked at him in person.

George Washington is one figure we believe in because of the historical evidence that he existed. He has a mark in our history and a legacy as a public figure and as a man.

It doesn’t take much for us to believe that George Washington ever existed.

Jesus Of Nazareth is another historical figure who lived 1700 years prior to George Washington.

He was a carpenter, son, friend, teacher and evangelist. He was followed by thousands for His preaching.  He was hated by many, and loved by more.  Jesus soon became known as The Christ. He was the Son of God and He would be crucified for it.  Yet, most critics, require more proof that Jesus walked the earth, than George Washington.

The difference between the two men? Aside from deity?  Aside from the fact that Jesus Christ is our Savior? Nothing.

Both men walked the earth. Both were famous. Both had a following. And both left a legacy behind them.

However, only one can offer eternal salvation.

George Washington’s face and signature is on our currency, as with other Presidents. Yet, they offer only a reminder of what is available in this world.   Our currency is passed around as we forget who’s face is on each denomination.  Everything our legends remind us of, reminds us of this world.

All the proof you will ever need is in the Bible. Yet, most people who question the authenticity of Jesus Christ, have never read it. More people will have touched money,  than will have opened a Bible.  More people will desire fame and riches over a relationship with Jesus Christ.

George Washington was an amazing man who fought for the freedom of our country and our government.

Jesus Christ came to save the world and was persecuted for it.

George Washington died from Epiglottitis, or an infection to the back of the tongue due to a Flu variant.

Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay our sin debt.

“And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.”

‭‭John‬ ‭12:47‬
