Balance

Balance

Verse of the Day: “Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.”

‭‭Job‬ ‭31:6‬

In this verse Job is asking to be viewed by the things he has not done and that God may see his integrity. Job has told God of the sins he has avoided and the good things he has done.

A lot of times we focus too much on one thing, instead of balancing everything out. We focus on all the things we haven’t done instead of looking at the things we’ve done, good or bad and vice versus. We might always look at what someone doesn’t do instead of looking at the things they are doing.

We can place too much of an emphasis on one thing and in turn we neglect the other things in our lives. We focus on work and family is neglected. We focus on hobbies and the home is neglected. Balance is very important as long as God is at the center of every scale we try to balance.

This can be true in our walk as well. If we focus on our bible reading more than anything else, prayer can suffer. There needs to be a balance of focus. Dedicating time to prayer, church, bible reading, fellowship, etc are all important, not any one thing is more important than the other.

Of course the balance I’m talking about is centered around your Christian walk. And as long as you’re walking you’re not standing still.

I recently have struggled with anxiety. I never had a problem with it before. I used to respond to some crazy calls while in law enforcement and never thought twice about it. I thrived on the chaos. It’s different now. Little things can set my emotional scales out of balance. We are in Houston, Texas visiting my oldest son and we were headed out to meet them for supper. The traffic was insane, no exaggeration. My anxiety overflowed and it was impossible for me to drive on the highway.

This is because I wasn’t balanced. I didn’t put God at the center of my scales. On one side my anxiety weighed more on me emotionally than the peace on the other side and I wasn’t able to balance it.

If God was at the center, He easily would have been able to set the scales even. But like man, I tried to balance it out and couldn’t.

We need to turn to God for balance in our lives. Some of us want God to provide more blessings than lessons. Those scales won’t balance. When we try to make things balance it’s usually when it isn’t going to balance. The harder we try, the worse it gets.

Is your life out of balance? Remember to give God your time. Everything we do should glorify God. Put Him at the center of your life and it will have balance.
