It’s Not Your Fight

It’s Not Your Fight

“And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.”

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭20:15‬

Ever try and stand up for someone else or fight a battle for a friend or family member?

You felt compelled because of the relationship you had with that person. Even though you weren’t involved in the situation, you stood up and tried to protect your friend or family member.

It’s almost impossible to defend a situation or a person when you aren’t directly involved. As hard as you want that person to be defended, it’s not your fight.

And sometimes, even when it’s your circumstance, going through it alone is difficult by itself. Difficult situations are hard enough by themselves. Going through it alone makes it so much harder.

“And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.”

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭20:3‬

In this story, Jehoshaphat went before God with his people and prayed for God to help them because there were armies getting ready to invade them. Jehoshaphat declared a fast for his people as a commitment to God.

Jehoshaphat prayed to God for His help in this troubling circumstance. He went to God in prayer because of his fear. He knew God would help him.

God comforts Jehoshaphat by telling Him;

“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.”

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭20:17‬

Jehoshaphat was afraid he would lose Jerusalem and many people in this battle so he turned to God for help. He placed his trust in the Lord, prayed to Him and watched God work.

Jehoshaphat and all of Judah and Jerusalem rose early in the morning and fell before God in prayer and worshipped the Lord. What an amazing commitment to God.

Later in the day.......

“And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.”

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭20:24‬

Jehoshaphat’s prayer and worship brought God’s help and victory.

Afterward Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah and Jerusalem gave God praise and thanks through music and song.

This is a small small story in a book filled with the many ways God can help you when you’re going through troubling times or a difficult circumstance.

No problem is too big for God to handle, all you have to do is turn to Him.

It is so hard at times to ask for help, you just have to remember that God is here.

If you’re going through something difficult in your life, pray to God and ask Him for His help.  Open the Bible and find a passage or a scripture that will help ease your mind through difficult circumstances.
