A Penny For Your Thoughts

A Penny For Your Thoughts

“And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12:25‬

When I was younger my grandmother would say to me, “a penny for your thoughts”.

She would usually say this because I was sitting somewhere quietly staring at nothing.

My response was usually, “I’m not thinking about anything”.

Unfortunately, this was a lie. My brain was always going a million miles an hour, I just always assumed my grandmother would never understand what I was thinking about, at 13 years old.

Can you imagine being able to read someone’s mind? What if your spouse, parent or child could read yours? What if strangers on the street could read your mind?

I could stop right there - most people reading this probably passed out by now - or they are telling themselves it would be okay because they have nothing to hide. Nice try.

Either way, thankfully no one can read our minds, that we know of.

Well there is one, God can. God knows what we are thinking - there is nothing we can hide from Him.  He knows everything.

So it amazes me that we try so hard to hide what we feel on the inside by how we act on the outside.

We act happy when we are sad. We try to be calm when we are mad. We distance ourselves when we want comfort and attention.  Emotions are usually masked by unequalled facial expressions, gestures and body language.

And this barely scratches the surface. Our thought lives are complex. We develop and destroy our brain by what we look at and what we listen to - it’s scientifically proven.

What we see, hear and taste provokes thought, creates memories and generates emotion. It’s been used in advertising for a long time.

We would never want anyone else to know our thoughts, unless of course our thoughts were always good. And there’s nothing we can do about that. Except......

Replace the bad things in your life with things that are righteous and Holy and of God. The chances are much greater that your thoughts will become righteous and Holy and centered around Him. Much more if you do, than if you don’t.

One thing is for sure, if you don’t put God at the front of your life, you will never know.

The one relationship that will strengthen every other relationship, is the one we have with God.

Start a relationship with God today, He already knows everything there is to know about you.

“For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭12:14‬
