Good
Word of the Day: Good
Verse of the Day: “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.”
1 Corinthians 15:33-34
So true indeed. It's amazing what good things can do in your life. Especially good friends. Especially saved and spiritual friends. Especially God!
Is good, good enough? Like the verse says - evil communications corrupt good manners. Some have not the knowledge of God!
You know my story and most of it revolves around being around the wrong people. Sure most of them were cops, and that doesn't mean they were bad people, some were just bad for me.
Some drank too much. Some cursed too much. Some were womanizers. Some worshipped idol things. Some were not believers. Some were really good people. But good people aren’t always Godly people. And I was one of them.
Whatever we surround ourselves with it should be holy. It should be good, not evil. It should be filled with joy, not hatred. It should be humble and not covetous. A lot of the times we just go with the flow. We allow others to determine our goals and objectives, our relationships and who we become. That’s not a bad thing if it follows spiritual and biblical principles. We are here on this earth to glorify God and sometimes I think people just don’t get that.
You have to start by taking the bad things out of your life. Once you’ve taken these things out of your life, you have to replace them with good things. Otherwise Satan will look to fill the void. Once you start to replace the bad things with good things, changes will happen!
I’ll say this, for me, I took bad things out and didn’t start replacing them - it’s too easy to go back to the bad things. The bad things were hard to replace because they became habit or routine or as a mechanism we would default to. Once the replacement happens, the good becomes the routine.
I can’t imagine not having the good people in my life that I have right now. I can’t imagine not having a prayer life or Bible study time or a fellowship with God. I can’t imagine not having the support of my wife and family or my friends. But I also can’t imagine ever drinking again or every other word being profane. There are things you can accomplish through the power of God, but just like the bad things, the good things have to start somewhere.
“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:21
“A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”
Matthew 12:35
Matthew 5:16
Ephesians 4:29
