When Size Matters

When Size Matters.

Your Great Faith or Our Great God?

It is not our great faith in God, rather our faith in a great God - Pastor Callahan

“Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:28‬

How often do we depend on ourselves to get things done? Don’t answer that out loud.

For me, it’s daily.

I place such an emphasis on myself at times that it becomes the source of my stress and anxiety - which of course, I am the cause of.

We believe that every single thing is dependent on what we do. It’s the amount of our trust. Our love. Even our faith.

It’s interesting when I sit down in the quiet of the morning for my time with God, I don’t think of all the things I have to do throughout the day.

Of course I am still going to do them, but my focus is on God and what amazing things he’s done in my life and the lives of the people I love.  I spend in the Bible, in prayer and in reflection. These are the important things, not me. Although I can’t make it sound like it’s not through a devotional that I’m writing based on my experiences.

When I put my focus on Him, where it belongs, it takes the focus off of me.

Our faith depends on us looking to God and making Him the single most important thing in our life. Not all the other things in our worldly existence. It’s not the amount of faith, it’s the amount of focus. So why do we want to tell people about the size of our faith?  When we have faith in God we actually give up our faith in us. So to have faith in God is to stop having faith in ourselves. I know, I know, this sounds like we don’t care about ourselves. That’s not it. It’s that we don’t depend on ourselves for our faith, that we instead look to God for it.

It’s not an excuse to not be responsible for things, it’s a relationship with God, based on faith.

We still have our earthly responsibilities such as family, work and home. And this is just the short list. Inside those three lists items is a separate, longer list of our responsibilities.

Faith isn’t a responsibility, it’s a relationship. I know, it’s getting redundant.

When we build a relationship with God, this relationship builds and encourages our faith. It’s a cycle. The more we focus on God and the more we learn to trust God, the greater our faith becomes. The greater our faith becomes, the more trust we have in God which puts more of our focus on Him. We have to learn to let go of ourselves and depend on God.

It’s knowing and believing that God is all things. That he will provide for us, He will teach us and that He will love us.

Faith is our belief in all the things God is to us and the remarkable things He’s done in our lives.

What it isn’t, is about us. It’s not how much faith we have or how big mine is, versus yours. It’s not a contest, competition or even a comparison. It has zero to do with us. Our faith is not the amazement. Our great God is the amazement. It’s actually learning to let go of focusing on ourselves and learning to listen to what He wants for our lives.

We tend to shift the attention toward ourselves. We want everyone to know what we’ve accomplished. Even in humility, we say, “hey look at me, I’m being humble”.

We can’t share our faith, it’s impossible, but we can share our God. Sharing what God has done in our lives and what great things He has done in others’ lives, will encourage people to have a relationship with Him.

It is about the great and amazing things God has done in our lives that turn people to God, not the greatness in ourselves. Our faith only has to be the size of a mustard seed and that faith can move mountains.

It’s not the size of our faith in God, it’s the size of God in our faith.

I’ve come to realize that God could’ve stopped at creating plants and animals. Imagine that for a minute.  But he created us. Let that sink in. God created all of us.

He definitely is greater than you and I.

“Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭17:19-21‬
