Let Me Introduce Myself
Let Me Introduce Myself
“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,”
Romans 1:1
How do we identify ourselves? Are we the founder of a company? A technician, salesperson or service provider? Do we give out titles, credentials and abbreviations because they make us sound more important?
When was the last time you identified yourself as a Christian during an introduction? When was the last time you shared your faith with someone you didn’t know or put your religious identity at the closing of an email or personal letter?
In the verse above, Paul is writing a letter to Rome. Before Paul wrote this letter he was a Roman, yet he had never been to Rome. Paul was a Jewish Pharisee, born with Roman citizenship in a gentile city. He was a persecutor of Christians. That was before.
He was now a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ. He was an apostle. A church planter. A missionary. An evangelist.
And yet, he introduced himself as “a servant of Jesus Christ”. He didn’t see the need for titles or accomplishments. He simply identified himself for what he was. A servant of Christ.
Paul had been around for a long time. He had done both good and terrible things. His testimony is amazing - yet it wasn’t about all his failures or his accomplishments.
Paul was a servant of the Messiah.
He identified himself as such. He would serve Christ until his death.
His introduction wasn’t about all that he had done, witnessed or participated in. It was about the redeeming work of Jesus Christ in him. And this work that had been done in him created a desire for him to serve The Messiah.
We can get caught up in what we want others to think. We can get too concerned about what they think about us because of what we feed them. We can get caught up in throwing around the names and our associations, like it even means something to other people. We can do all of this and lose focus on what matters most - serving our Lord Jesus Christ.
The one thing that saved us from ourselves can’t be the last thing we are most proud of.
Take time today to serve God by bringing Him the glory He deserves from you.
Introduce someone to Christ by introducing yourself by what Christ has done in you.
Serve the Lord daily.
Pray.
Gather together with two or more in His name.
Read your Bible.
Have Christ-centered relationships.
“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.”
Philippians 1:3-7
