Ruts (by Brother John)
Ruts (by Brother John)
Have you ever driven down an old country road? You know the ones…in their prime maybe they had some good gravel on them or a nice layer of ‘crush and run’ packed tightly!
But as the years have gone by, with out any maintenance or repairs, but lots and lots of driving on them, these roads start to develop ruts.
These ruts are dangerous. The signs are posted..”rough road ahead”. And the more they are neglected…the more the storms come and wash them out…the deeper and harder to navigate they become. These deep ruts are hard to get out of. They require special skill or even preparation…sometimes, even a fancy vehicle with huge tires will have a hard time getting through them depending on how deep they are. And don’t even think about driving the deep ones when it gets dark!
My friend, these ruts are just like the sin in our lives. The more we neglect it, the deeper into it we get. Sure, we can try our best to stay out of the ruts…but wouldn’t it just be easier…safer…to avoid that road all together?
That road might be the quickest or shortest way to get where WE want to go, but it’s not what is best for us.
God knows exactly where we are going, and how we should get there. He knows what is best for us. It might not be the way we want to do it…but as the Psalmist said…
“As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.” Psalm 18:30
Won’t you trust him to lead you today?
