Excusable or Forgivable
Excusable or Forgivable?
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.”
1 John 2:1-3 KJV
We are forgiven. Past, present and future.
This doesn’t mean that sin is excusable. It is not.
Our role as Christians is to live a life that brings glory to God. We have been reconciled with God through Jesus’ death. This doesn’t give us an excuse to sin. It should be quite the opposite as those who have placed their lives in the faith of Christ.
As I lived a life away from God, in sin, I knew better but I didn’t do better. My life with Jesus Christ at the center must be different. I don’t depend on myself anymore, in fact, that’s where most problems came from. It’s not an excuse, it’s the facts. It doesn’t make me better, it makes me forgiven.
It also doesn’t give us an excuse to stay in sin. Just because someone will say that we have a sin nature - this doesn’t condone sin.
Sin is not a matter of nature, it is a matter of conduct. It is how we behave, not just because we are but because we can. And we shouldn’t.
It shouldn’t be an excuse. Just remember Who died for you.
“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
1 John 1:5-10
