What Do You Serve?

What Do You Serve?

“But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:17-18‬

Do you serve sin or righteousness?

Our doctrine is determine by what we serve.  If we serve sin, our doctrine is weak, unbiblical and lacks obedience. When we serve righteousness, our doctrine is strong, biblical and obedient to God. Sin can take over when we have weak doctrine.

There was a time in my life when I lived in sin. My thoughts were anxious and filled with  disruption. I couldn’t rest and there was never peace. I was living in a life of sin. I wasn’t serving God because I didn’t put my faith and trust in Him.

A life of sin looks different for everyone. Some may not see sin as others do. Some may not struggle with the same sins or the same intensity of sin as others.  Some may not think sin is ruling their life. Others won’t care.

Sin is the lack of obedience to God’s Will.  When we sin, we are not being obedient to God. And we will all sin.

I still struggle with sin, sometimes daily. Sometimes hourly. But the difference is, I know where to turn for forgiveness and for strength. I can turn to God and He will help me. I realize now more than ever - I was never designed to be able to do it on my own. No one was designed to be able to do it on their own.

I can now fill my life in obedience to God. I don’t have to measure up to the world anymore. I don’t have to fit into any ideals.  I don’t compare my life and what I felt, as advantages and disadvantages. I can live a life serving God and honoring Him, for saving me, from myself.

When we place God at the front of our lives, sin takes a back seat. Only one can have our focus.  There are days when sin has found its way to the front. Our service to God has to be active, we have to do it. We can’t sit back anymore and pray that it will just happen. Going to church once or twice a week doesn’t put God at the front of your life. Praying before meals and bedtime doesn’t put God at the front of your life. Reading a daily devotion doesn’t give God every bit of your attention.

God has to be at the front of your life to push sin to the back of it and you have to do this. No one else can do it for you. This is service. When He is at the front, you serve Him.

If we expect others to serve more, we shouldn’t serve less.  Service is required, not requested.  Service is a stipulation not a suggestion.

Being a Child of God comes with responsibility.  Be responsible.

“But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:22-23‬
