Who Am I

Who I Am.

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Hebrews‬ ‭10:23-25‬

Ever play that game when you were traveling where you would try and describe someone and someone else would have to guess who you were?

What a model for Christian life. These verses talk about our commitment to our faith, our growth, our fellowship and worship and the return of Christ. The best part, for me, “without wavering”.

It’s the basic model for our walk with Jesus and our Christian life. We shouldn’t be ashamed to be called a Christian, yet so many of us don’t use it to describe who we are. We neglect our daily prayer time, put off our bible reading and make excuses to miss church or to fellowship with like-minded believers. This verse makes it simple, profess our faith like we promised, provoke each other to love and do good things and encourage each other as we wait for the Lord to return.

Many times we meet people and they ask, “so what do you do?” Or “What kind of work are you in?” And being proud people we always gleam about our job. It doesn’t take much to tell people what we like to do or where we work or our Instagram or Facebook page. We proudly talk about personal or family accomplishments. So why is it so hard to tell people about our faith in Jesus Christ?

Don’t get me wrong here. We should be proud of what we do, but even more so of who we are.  And I’m no exception. I find it difficult to start that conversation.

Last time I checked there wasn’t a check box for Christian on an application. People don’t introduce themselves as, “Hi, I’m Bill and I’m a Christian”. Titles are important, except that one. Everyone wants to say what they are in charge of, when they really aren’t in charge at all.

This isn’t to say what you do isn’t important, but is it more important that the God you worship?  It shouldn’t be. We should be proud Christians. Proud believers in Christ. Proud of our salvation. Proud to name our Christian friends. And proud to say where we go to church. This is who we should be.

The next time someone asks you to tell them about yourself - do you put Christian at the top of the list?

Think about this today;

If we make something a routine eventually it will become a habit. That habit will become a desire. Start by praying daily. Reading your Bible daily. Going to church.

“Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.”

‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4:1‬ ‭
