Who We Are
Who we are.
Verse of the Day: “Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;”
2 Timothy 1:8
Does what you do, say who you are?
This devotion will piggyback on the one from the other day titled Who Am I.
Grocery shopping, talking to others, posting in social media, the clothes we wear. Does any of this say who we are or who we aren’t? The answer is, it could.
If you were walking through the grocery store wearing a t-shirt with a beer logo or profanity on it - would that say who you are? Could someone get a pretty good idea?
If you were talking to a friend and using profanity, would that? How about drinking a beer?
What we do, what we wear and how we say things say a lot about who we are. In today’s times, with social media, everyone wants to share everything with everybody. We want everyone to know what we’ve done, where we are headed and what our plans are. We’ve shared so many details, people can get a pretty good idea of who we are. Trending fashions and the need to fit in define our style. Social meet-ups and gatherings also affect our need to conform and our desire for acceptance. We place a lot of emphasis on what others think.
As a Christian and a believer, you should only worry about one.
“be not thou therefore ashamed of our testimony of the Lord” says a lot of who we should be.
So WHO do you want people to know you as?
We should reflect Jesus onto other people.
His light should shine through us to others.
We should be a reflection of Jesus.
But wow is this hard. Not only because of social acceptance, but because of upbringing, experience and behavior. We all have reasons why this is hard. How we were raised, our relationships, our education, our environment and our life has determine who we are. And our walk with God can change all of that. I can testify to that and so can many of you. Think about your past. Did you ever think this is where you’d be? I didn’t.
Do you find it hard to walk up to someone and talk about Jesus? Do people see your faith in God in you?
Think about these things today and find a way to change how people see who you are.
The next time you feel the urge to post on social media, share your faith. Don’t copy and paste a meme about politics. Write something heartfelt. Text a friend something the Lord has put on your heart. Pray for someone. Or invite someone to church. I’m not saying post something so that everyone else can see it for pride, but you get what I’m saying. We should always strive to use biblical principles and glorify God in everything we do.
If you are proud to be a Christian, let someone know about it today. God deserves the glory. Let it define who you are.
“But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.”

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;”
