Making the Same Mistakes

Making the Same Mistake Twice........

“He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭29:1‬

Ever keep making the same mistake over and over? You know it’s only called a mistake when you don’t do it purposefully?

I’ve made plenty of bad decisions in my life, some over and over again. In my past I loved to label them as mistakes. It takes the ownership away.

A mistake is soft and fluffy, a bad decision is ugly.

This verse points out that if you continue with the same bad decisions over and over and over, it will harden your heart. And there is no remedy for that.  No remedy whatsoever.

“Hardeneth his neck” refers to a horse not taking the yoke for a plow. When the horse is stubborn it will stiffen its neck and not relax in order to pull the plow. A draught horse is a hearty, heavy and muscular horse. It’s neck is wide and thick, very muscular. This is a strong horse. Think Clydesdale. Only the strongest horse would be used to pull the plow. The yoke was a heavy wooden object that went over the horses neck and attached to the plow.

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:30‬

In Matthew 11:30, Jesus says that his yoke is easy and his burden is light. I imagine Jesus’s yoke being weightless and the burden (the plow) being effortless. Just gliding along the surface.

When we harden our hearts and stiffen our pride we turn ourselves away from all the things that Jesus Christ represents.

Jesus wasn’t meant to be difficult and arduous. His way was meant to be filled with love and joy.

When we get involved, with all our baggage and bad decisions we don’t learn to let go and move forward with Him.

Instead of fighting the yoke because we are used to it being heavy and burdensome, we should take the yoke of Jesus and let go of our hardened ways.

Once you walk with Jesus and build a relationship where you truly trust Him, things will begin to change in your life.

You’ll never know if you never try.

Stop making the same bad decisions over and over and turn to God for help.
