WWJD

Verse of the Day:  “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6:10‬

Remember the phrase - What Would Jesus Do?  Like wearing the bracelet would help us respond to a circumstance as if Jesus was standing right next to us. Having to be reminded of how to respond was why some wore the bracelet. Others needed to display their trust in Jesus for everyone to see. For some it was a confession of faith for approval. I thought it was catchy. I guess not catchy enough - I made plenty of bad decisions since then and I never bought the bracelet.

After some research about the catchy phrase, it became widely popular in the 1800s after a book was written. And then a resurgence in 1990 prompted the bracelets production and sale. Millions and millions of dollars in revenue were generated from the sales of the bracelets. I won’t provide all the details - you can go down that rabbit trail on your own.

But what I find interesting is that what began as a meaningful expression of faith, became a multi-million dollar business. Everything is centered around money nowadays. Everyone wants it. Everyone desires it. And everyone needs it. We talk about what things cost, what we should charge and how much we have in the bank.

WWJD is a business. It’s a biblical stock fund, seriously. It’s a company that invest in other companies stocks that align with the biblical principles they believe in. Another WWJD company is a for profit organization that makes millions on charities around the world. And one more WWJD company still manufactures the bracelets and sells them on Amazon for $13.99 a piece.  I’m not sure any of these million dollar companies are tithing biblically. Just saying. And I also don’t know if they aren’t.

Think about this - what’s the most expensive thing in your life? Now this, what’s the one thing that cost you the most?

It’s your Salvation. It’s free but it’s also priceless. It cost Jesus everything and was a free gift to us. He paid everything in full. The price of salvation is great that we couldn’t afford it on our own.

We cherish the almighty dollar so much, that we’ve forgotten the principles of living a Christ-centered life. Everything centers around money, even churches drive the need to increase attendance to increase cash flow.  People make money off of religion. A quick internet search will show thousands of religion-based business making millions.

We forget what Jesus did. We forget how he lived. We forget what he paid.  Don’t forget the meaning behind the man. It’s not a catchy slogan, it’s a way of life.

We should put as much effort into our salvation as we do our finances. Sure we need to be responsible and work, and tithe and provide for our families. But anything we do in excess which pulls us away from God is not Christ-centered. We should treat our salvation as our most prized asset. Our salvation should be guarded from attacks from the devil. Our salvation should be shared to those in need. Our salvation should be an investment in our future. Our salvation shouldn’t be taken for granted.

Reading the Bible, praying to God, going to church and surrounding yourselves with like-minded believers will pay dividends in your life. Take the time to invest now.

“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6:9-12‬

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6:17-19‬
