Freedom

Freedom

“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:13-15‬

People so badly want freedom. But what they really want is for someone to give them something they can already choose to have.

You can either have freedom to sin or freedom to serve. By this, it is important to look at the “to”. You can either sin or serve.

By nature we sin. If we choose to do nothing else, sin will abound. The world will become important if we choose not to serve others or serve God.

When Paul wrote the letter to the churches in Galatia, he was writing to show that you did not have to follow Jewish law in order to be saved. Rather it was faith in Christ.

The gentiles in Galatia believed Jewish law would save them, rather give them eternal salvation in Heaven. Paul was there in Galatia to serve Jesus Christ, to spread the gospel.

Paul was a man who had sinned so much in his life. He persecuted Christians and was probably instrumental in thousands of Christians dying. Yet he was saved by his belief in Jesus Christ as the messiah. He literally gave his life up to follow Christ.

Paul chose the freedom to serve over the freedom to sin. We have freedom, we just have to choose which freedom we want.

Most people want freedom from government, freedom from rules and laws and freedom to do whatever they want. And that’s where the devil wins. That begets freedom to sin.

Freedom to serve means we relinquish everything that we know and believe and place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ for our lives. This is freedom to serve. We serve our Lord, we serve our church, we serve other Christians and we serve humanity.

Physical, social and economical freedom is not a guarantee everywhere, but our souls have a freedom to choose.

We can be tied to sin or we can be free in Christ. Once we are free in Christ, the Holy Spirit is in us.

Your choice.

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:16-18‬
