I’ve Fallen and I CAN Get Up.
I’ve Fallen and I CAN Get Up
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;”
Ephesians 1:7
Redemption. It is found so many times in the Bible. Where does it come in The Process? It comes after Repentance and before Restoration.
I’ll talk more about The Process in another devotion.
We’ve covered sin and restoration. Today we will talk about our redemption and what it means.
Some of you will remember the commercial from years past where the elderly lady fell down and yells, “Help! I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up”. She had fallen and wasn’t near a phone and was alone. No one was around to help her. Some of you may have experienced this with a loved one in real life. It’s a pretty helpless situation.
I remember working in our shed years ago and I was bent down picking up some nuts and bolts up from the floor. I went to stand up and my back seized up. Ashley was in Ocala at a horse show and my phone was on my work bench several feet away. I was stuck in this bent position and couldn’t move without being in excruciating pain. It was August and it was hours before she got home.
As Christians, we aren’t alone. We have the redemption of Jesus Christ and our salvation. We have other believers and our family, both our church family and our home family. We also have our shepherd or pastor. There are times when we will fall or even get stuck.
When we fall because of sin, we can get up. We aren’t alone. Everyone will fall. Somewhere along your walk, it will happen. It may happen often or not for a while. Don’t fool yourself, it will happen.
It could be a mere trip, or even a fall that hurts when you land. And it’s going to be difficult at times to get back up. You may even feel stuck.
During your walk with Christ, you will fall. It’s not the fall or how you land that matters. It’s that you get up and continue walking.
We have been forgiven, forever, of all our sins - when we put our trust in Jesus Christ. This isn’t some catchy phrase. This is because Jesus died on the cross to forgive all of our sins. It was the ultimate sacrifice.
So what it isn’t is a freebie to go sin. This is forgiveness because you will sin again. It just isn’t possible not to sin. It will hurt when we fall because we have chosen to walk with Christ. It hurts because we are trying to live a life that glorifies God. It hurts because we don’t want to let our Savior down.
And because we have redemption, our sin debt has been cleared. We no longer owe our lives to sin. We can pull ourselves out of this regret.
This redemption allows us to get up and continue walking. It’s when we don’t realize that we have been forgiven that we stay down. All too often this is a position that many Christians end up in - being down.
It’s easy to stay down. We begin to absorb ourselves in what we’ve done and the feelings surrounding it. We get hung up on the sin and that we’ve let others down. We allow the emotion of sin pull us from God. We place more emphasis on what we’ve done rather than where we should be going or that we should be getting up.
We have to get up. Remove ourselves from whatever is keeping us down and continue our walk with Christ. There is so much to be gained from our walk. The relationship you build and maintain with Jesus Christ is unexplainable. If you don’t have it, you are really missing out.
Just remember. You will fall. And when you do, get up and get back into your walk with the Lord. He has already forgiven you. Remember to trust Him and go to Him for the strength you need.
