You’re Face Will Freeze Like That
You’re Face Will Freeze Like That
“But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.”
Exodus 10:27
When my grandparents would take us to the mountains of North Carolina on summer vacation, we would drive them crazy during the eight hour car ride.
My brother and I would get bored, pick on each other and then try to get the attention of my grandparents through wickedness.
When my grandparents had enough my grandfather would yell at us and we would sit quietly, temporarily.
Then a few minutes later I would make a face using my fingers to contort my cheeks and mouth and my brother would do the same. We tried to get the other to get mad and to get them in trouble.
My grandmother would catch one of us and say “oh honey, don’t make that face, what if your face would freeze like that”?
I used to always wonder and sometimes laugh, what if she was right? What if my face actually froze in the condition I manipulated it into? Weird. I’d be like that the rest of my life.
And then my brother and I would start all over again.
Although I never thought it would be possible for my face to freeze in that instance, I do believe that God can harden a heart.
God hardened Pharoahs heart, which means he made it strong. But this kind of strong heart wasn’t good, it was bad. Much like a frozen face would be bad.
Pharoahs hardened heart meant he would not let the children of Israel leave. Pharoah was not a good person, just as a hardened heart is not good.
So many bad thing came as a result of a hardened heart.
Can you think of a time when you’ve hardened your heart? I can.
There are times when we have things happen in our life or with people when our pride hardens our heart and our response to them. Maybe an argument. Maybe arrogance. Maybe just stupidity.
We become bullheaded, insincere and prideful.
This usually happens when we don’t like something or we feel like someone “wronged us” or did something against us. We take something they did personally and it felt offensive to us.
What God does, is He will use these instances as a teaching moment for us. Sure we should respond differently in these instances, but we usually don’t.
Our response show who we are. It’s a representation of our character and our relationship with God. How we respond is what we have decided to show the other person. It’s what they will remember.
We should always strive to respond like Christians and to think of the opportunity God has put in front of us to glorify Him.
It’s too easy to get frustrated or angered when something doesn’t go right, especially with someone else.
The next time you don’t like the way something was said, or the way something happened or even how you were treated, don’t let your heart get hardened. Think about how God is using this moment for you to use what He has taught you.
Just think, if you’re face could freeze like that, what if you’re heart froze like that?
Turn to God in prayer and ask Him to show you how to respond in a way that would bring Him glory.

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
