Help

Word of the Day: Help

Verse of the Day:  “For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭41:13‬

I came across this verse this morning in my reading and it stuck out. It’s a great verse that says how God is there for us. How he makes us feel comfortable right? But the part that stuck out to me was " I will HELP thee."

Help means to provide assistance, lend a hand. Meaning, we have some ownership in resolving our fear and shouldn’t rely on God solely to fix everything.

Remember crossing the street when you were younger with your parents or grandparents? Or walking your children or grandchildren across the street and saying, “now wait, grab my hand”.  Just the mere feeling of holding someone’s hand or even holding onto someone’s hand - provides comfort and security.  We would grab a child’s hand to help them. To be their security.

The verse didn't say, I will fix thee. I will repair thee. I will correct thee. It said help.

Our faith depends a lot on allowing God to help us, not fix us. We have to learn to allow God to work in our lives. God could fix anything and everything. But I believe God can use a lot of our circumstances to help or teach us. Or he can use us to help someone else. And if he went around fixing everything, we would never learn to need Him for His help. And we’d never learn how to go to Him.

Prayer is a great way to go to God ask for His help. And the best thing about prayer is that you can pray anywhere. But it doesn’t stop at prayer.

Sure we can pray to God and ask Him to fix everything - and in some instances God does fix things. But it also involves us asking the Holy Spirit to work in us. It involves us grabbing the hand for help.  We can overcome fear and anxiety by turning to God and finding comfort in Him.

Just imagine the things we don’t know about or see that God has done in our lives to help us with our fear. Sure there are things we can point to and say - that was God!  But there are so so many things that we will never see.  And think about the things that God orchestrates that doesn’t directly fix what we want, but is a part of someone else’s life.

When it comes to help, God will utilize the Holy Spirit within us to guide us, comfort us and to help us. I have prayed to God to take away my fear and anxiety with a current situation that I struggle with badly. In the beginning it was difficult to trust God for my fear because I was used to fixing everything or taking control. And there are some things in our lives that we can’t fix or control. And there are times when we can’t help ourselves.

This is when we pray to God to help us. To take our hand. To guide us and to help relieve our anxiety and our fear. God can do anything if we will just take His hand.

Even if you aren’t dealing with fear, pray that you will be a help to someone in their life if they are dealing with it. Ask God to use you. And if you are dealing with fear or anxiety, use your relationship with God to allow God to help you.

“My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭121:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬
