Steady As You Go

Steady As You Go

“You enlarged my path under me, So my feet did not slip.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭18:36‬

Did you know that the big toe, also known as the “great toe”, contributes to the balance of the body?  I didn’t believe it either until I looked up a study and chronicle documented by Shih-Wei Chou, an Orthopedic resident in 2009.  It was a detailed and exhaustive study.

I have morally slipped, tripped and fallen so many times in my life, I’ve lost count.  I should be permanently bruised from all of it.

Many times I’ve quit chewing tobacco, only to succumb to the addiction again. I’ve sworn off drinking after a late night of partying after a football game, only to drink once the hangover subsided. I’ve laid awake and worried over bad decisions, only to repeat them over again once time has passed.

And I will continue to slip, trip and fall for the remainder of my life. With one difference. I can turn to God and rely on Him for surer footing.  Once we walk on solid ground with solid footing our walk becomes stronger.  It is weak when there is nothing to strengthen it. And God is the only way our walk will become stronger.

Life is full of curbs we miss stepping up to, holes we don’t avoid twisting an ankle on and roots on our path we fail to look down to.  It’s inevitable - until we turn to God.

We have to continually look to God to ensure our footing in this world is strong, stable and steady.  Every single time I’ve taken my eyes off of God, I’ve fallen.

I’ve slipped in my sin. Fallen into frustration . And tripped over my pride.

The study that was completed above showed that, medically, there would have to be accommodations made in the event of an amputation of the “great toe”.

Spiritually our accommodations are found in The Lord.

We can find stability in Him when our walk becomes uneasy. We can trust that our footing will be sure when we look to Him for guidance. And we can believe that, when we fall, He will help us back up.

Do you want to walk stronger? More steadily? Turn to God.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:5‬

“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭1:1-3‬

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:6‬

“For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:26‬
