Do

Word of the Day: Do

Verse of the Day:

“Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:9‬

The best part of this verse for me, is very simply one of the hardest things for me - “do”. God gives us so many commands in the Bible - over a thousand in the New Testament. And he gently says, “do”.

How hard it is to apply God’s word to our daily lives. If we don’t try and apply it every day, it will be easier and easier not to apply it as time goes by.

As our fellowship with God gets closer and stronger the further from wickedness we will get. But if our walk with God is “convenient” and sporadic, wickedness will abound.

So, it’s simple right?, to just “do” it?

If it was easy everyone would be doing it. There wouldn’t be sinners like me, and you. There wouldn’t be worldly disruption, evil and chaos. If we could all do as Jesus did. The entire world would be at peace if we all loved and behaved as Jesus did we would have understanding, compassion and long suffering.

But that won’t happen. We are all sinners. Each and every one of us. And the Bible says each sin is as the other. Your sin is like my sin and so on and so on. And to think it isn’t, is a sin.

So how do we “do” it?  We start by starting. If you never start you’ll never know.

I start and end every single day with giving thanks for what God has given me. I start my morning with prayer and thanks. In fact I start every prayer with giving thanks. Sure, I’d rather sleep or do some other worldly thing that brings me joy - but I am putting God first in my life - because our human nature is to always do for us first. Trust me I know. And it’s still hard when you put your mind to it. My mind wants to fight it all the time.

And it’s easy to sit and think about all the things we should be doing - doing it is the hard part. Being reminded to do it (like this devotion) just convicts us even more. But the verse is very specific - DO those things which you have learned of me, heard in me and have seen in me.

Strive every day to act as Jesus did. Apply the principles of the Bible. Pray. Go to church. Surround yourself with like-minded believers and share the Gospel. By putting God first in your life, you will find peace.  What are you waiting for?
