Don’t Forget

Don’t Forget

““Now consider this, you who forget God, Or I will tear you in pieces, and there will be no one to save you. He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me; And to him who sets his way properly I will show the salvation of God.””

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭50:22-23‬

Have you ever forgotten something? A name, where you put your car keys, something you wanted to remember to get at the grocery store or left for a trip and knew there was something you were forgetting?

Sometimes we forget the simplest of things. We fret and worry over trying to remember something, and eventually we move on.  Then, all of a sudden, when we least expect it, we remember what it was. ‬‬

Life gets like this with our faith. We are so accustomed to doing things on our own. Moving along and worrying about all the things we think we control. We let anxiety run over us like a dump truck. We stress over situations we put ourselves in because we didn’t think of God first. We give our friends and family our advice, instead of referring them to The One that can truly help. We listen, lend our shoulders and provide all the worldly solutions possible.  So where is God in all of this?

We don’t control any of it. Sure we can make decisions and control our behavior and emotions, but we don’t control the outcomes. As much as we’d like to think we do, we don’t.  So why do we move along in life and forget God?

Our world, the one we live in, is designed to distract us. We have to be intent on putting God at the front of our lives.  We get caught up in relationships, jobs, finances, things we enjoy or things that cause us joy or even stress and it all distracts us from Him. Good and bad, things will pull us from God.  Sometimes, it doesn’t take much.

We start reading less Bible, praying when we are comfortable, going to church less or not even going. All the while making excuses of being too busy, not having enough time or that other people don’t understand our situation.  God does.  And He expects us to glorify Him, praise Him and worship Him, in everything we do.

It is so difficult on some days - especially with the weight of certain situations looming in our heads and even in our hearts. We can get so caught up in ourselves that we forget Him.  We love our emotions like a blanket in a cold night. We want to wrap ourselves up in our emotions of frustration, sadness or bitterness. We. Love. Our. Emotions.

Look around, everything is OF God. It all belongs to Him, was given from Him or created by Him.

We have to stop taking credit for what we think we do, or did or how great we think we are.  The only reason we have one more breath is because of God. And yet, we forget to make the most important thing, the most important thing. We are continually distracted by this world, our emotions and the conditions of others. All of this, without putting God first.

We should thank God continually. Set our course on God. Nothing else. Nothing else matters. Our petty politics, our simple minded solutions and all of our complaints - all man made.  Unless it is of God, it is not a priority.

And before any of you cut me off. We can still love through this.  Our love for God is a priority and the love of our neighbor is crucial.  God has to be first though. Not us, not our problems, not our feelings and not our comfort.  When we put God first, so will others in our lives.

I hear so many complaints. So many grumblings. Such stress and anxiety. And I wonder, where is God in their lives?  Every single problem, issue, complaint, disruption and debacle is directly the result of a lack of God and faith. Period.  And we still turn to ourselves and the world for the solutions.

We should fall on our knees and pray for those that are afflicted. Pray for the ones that turn to the world for their help. Pray for God to comfort those in pain. Prayer works.  Yet we all have our specific prayer times. We should be falling on our faces, completely giving ourselves to God.  He deserves our emotions, our faith and our worship. Not this world.

Rest in the peace of God. He will not leave you or forsake you. He will bring you comfort. He will provide and He will answer your prayers.  But you can’t forget Him. The consequences of turning your back on God are dire.  God has to be the most important thing in your life. Has to be.  Put God at the front of everything you do. Rest in His love. Glorify Him. Praise Him. Worship Him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬

“if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭7:14‬

“If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15:6-9‬

“If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭14:26‬
