Christianity Isn’t Attractive

Why Christianity Isn’t Attractive

“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4:18-20‬

Yes you read that correctly - Christianity isn’t attractive.

We have taken our eyes off of Jesus.

We’ve done an excellent job of keeping Christianity thriving. Modern day Christianity that is.

I mean, worldly, modern-day Christianity, is very attractive.  It is not about a man who came to save the world  -  it is now about a world that can save men.  Modern-day Christianity has become blurred.  Distorted.  Confused.  It is no longer about Jesus Christ.  It has become an identity crises.  When everything in your life goes wrong - become a modern-day Christian.  Join the team.  Join the winning team.  Modern-day Christianity is less about a man and more about a place.  It’s become an institution where all your problems will go away and get fixed.

A social search of the most popular churches, preachers and ministries (modern-day Christianity) will show you the amount of money they are making off of successful marketing.  And everyone wants a piece of the pie.

Pastors are wearing thousand dollar shoes, expensive watches, offices are decorated with expensive espresso machines, top-of-the-money musical instruments, designer clothing and fashionable haircuts - and the list goes on and on.  Each sermon is filled with how much you mean to the ministry and the church and how great you’re doing and what a blessing you are to everyone around you.  If that’s the case - why are you going to church?  Because you are being told everything you want to hear, and everything that will keep you and your wallet coming back.

We turn to modern day Christianity because we need the pat-on-the-back.  We have the need to be part of something.  We want to be included.  We want the recognition of being told “you’re doing a great job”.  Church used to be a man, which became an institution, that is now an organization divided by denominations.  Christianity used to focus on a man that came to save the lost.  His body was analogous with a place of worship - for a reason, because we only needed to depend on Him.  Now, unfortunately, modern-day Christianity means money, fame, fortune and success.  Christianity has become so distorted that it doesn’t point back to the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Comforter, the Savior, the Messiah or Yahweh.

Modern-day Christianity focuses on more visitors, which means more potential members, which means more obligatory giving, which means a bigger paycheck, which equals worldly success.  And you can’t have any of that if you aren’t popular with the masses.  And by masses, I’m not talking about one hundred in attendance in a service - we are talking a thousand in attendance, even more.  And people aren’t paying money to hear you bash them about their lifestyles.  They want coffee bars, assigned seating, concert-style acoustics, less preaching, more professing, less conviction and more convincing. It’s new modern. It’s a new era.

True Jesus Christ Christianity is not attractive.  You have to give everything up.  You have to be willing to forsake your mother, father, brother and sister.  You have to be willing to admit your mistakes, confess your sins and love those who hate you.  Christianity is everything, we as a people, don’t want it to be.  It’s the truth in a world full of lies.  It is the light in a very very dark world.

True biblical Christianity contained martyrdom, death, betrayal, destitution, carnage, rage and sacrifice.  But today we can’t even say those words because it’s too harsh.  It may offend someone or hurt someone’s feelings. The truth isn’t the truth anymore. Even the word truth is a lie

Christianity today is pulling people towards the world by using Jesus Christ as the spokesperson all in the name of greed and identity politics. It’s a t-shirt because you rode the ride.

True Christianity only relies on Jesus Christ.

That’s it.  Nothing Else.  We don’t need a slogan, a motto, a business plan or a mascot.  We need Jesus Christ.

Do you want to know how to fix the world?  It’s simple.  Get to know Jesus. We are broken. We are sinful. The world is a dark and scary place and we need the light of Jesus Christ. Not fog machines and lowly lit auditoriums.

And for all the naysayers out there who have more excuses than fingers - He.  Is.  The.  Answer!

For every single problem in the world - Christ is the answer.  The only ones who don’t have the answers are the ones that don’t have Christ.

So put down the latest fiction novel.  Say goodbye to your favorite Lifetime Channel movie.  And pick up the Bible.

The only way you are going to learn about, and develop a relationship with Jesus Christ is to begin to fellowship with Him.  And the only way you are going to do that is to take away all of the things that you are spending your time on that don’t bring you closer to Him.

Christianity is simple.  We are followers and doers of Jesus Christ.  He is the only way to salvation.  It is by God’s grace, our faith, His sacrifice.  No works.  Christianity is based on the teaching and principles of Jesus.  We are commanded to be disciples, to obey, to sacrifice, to love.  Our doctrine is the Bible. Our savior of the world is, Jesus Christ.

John 12:26

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

John 3:5

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

John 10:29

My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

John 14:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
