Bad Weather

Bad Weather

“Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:56‬

In an age overflowing with technology and speed - everything is available at our fingertips.

I remember watching my grandfather read the newspaper to try and figure out the weather. And then as technology advanced and meteorologists had more tools made available to them - television became the source for weather prediction.

Fast forward forty years, and I can watch a radar of a storm moving toward me, on my phone, and with great precision.

In Chapter 12 of the Gospel of Luke, Jesus warns about not seeing the times that people are living in. He warns of not being able to see the storm that is approaching.  He was, almost scoldingly, telling them they should be more aware of these times.

The ‘hypocrites’ were able to see storms coming from off in the distance. They were able to determine temperature changes from a breeze - but they couldn’t see the times they were living in. It was right in front of them.

Bad weather means something “not good” is coming. Tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning and floods are all results from bad weather. But it’s more than that. Of all the tools that we have to predict the weather, we still don’t heed the warnings. Sure many of us try and prepare for the worst - only to watch as a storm passes and neglect to remember the close miss for the next time.  Unfortunately many are devastated by the storms of life, because they will never see Jesus.

We are in a time of bad weather. We continue about, day to day, as if Jesus Christ is not returning - as He promised.  We are not prepared. We are not preparing others for His return, as if their life depended on it.

We go about our days never talking about the work that has been done in us. We meet with friends, share our time with family, place importance on everything but, what’s important and about what IS going to happen.

We can’t continue to make excuses about time, or responsibilities or priorities. There is only one single priority in this earthly life - to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the hopes that souls will be saved, not lost.

Our bad weather is coming. A day when souls will be lost. Many of these souls will be people we know and love. Family members, loved ones, friends and people important to people we love.

Would you not warn a loved-one of an impending dangerous storm?  Would you not help a neighbor to prepare? Or drive a long distance to help someone who experienced loss from disaster?

Jesus Christ will return for His church and we will stand in front of the judgement seat.

These aren’t fairy tales. These are our realities as Christian’s. We can’t continue to cover our eyes anymore and pretend nothing is happening.

The return of Jesus Christ is a glorious thing to anticipate, if you are saved.  If you aren’t, it will be the worst storm you have ever encountered.

““Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:32-34‬

“Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?” And I said to him, “Sir, you know.” So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.””

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭7:13-17‬
