“Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: and I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.”
Exodus 6:6-8
Why don’t we listen when someone tells us something? Especially something important?
Ever notice how much easier it is to read something and understand it - especially if it is really well written? If the instructions or directions are clearly laid out for something it makes it much easier to follow.
So many questions today.
Moses received instructions from God. Very clear instructions indeed. Take His people from Egypt. Period.
Moses was the messenger. Although the Israelites believed in God, they didn’t listen to Moses.
They struggled with being told what to do, because it didn’t line up with the way they wanted to do it. They were lacking faith.
The presence of pride creates the lack of faith.
When we reside outside of God’s will - we are operating within our own.
You cannot do both.
I struggled here for a long time. Not just with sin - but after turning my life to Christ, I struggled to stay in God’s will because I didn’t understand it and I wasn’t sure if I was in it.
Living in God’s will for our lives is based on our relationship with Him. This relationship is dependent on our belief, trust and faith. And dependent on us listening.
The more time we spend with God, in prayer and in His word, the more we come to understand His will for our lives.
Once we turn our lives over to Christ and agree to live a life that brings glory to God - we give up what we see as the right way.
Of course we can do good things on our own. That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying, I am not longer the interpreter for what is right and wrong.
Living for God puts us in His will, not ours.
Once we accept Jesus Christ as our savior we have the Holy Spirit residing in us. We can be guided by the Holy Spirit or we can be led by ourselves. We can’t do both at the same time.
Think of the Holy Spirit as a form of your conscience, but better. It is the understanding of what God wants for your life as the Holy Spirit guides you. You have to listen to the Holy Spirit.
Our relationship with God will begin to sanctify us by living inside of us.
Of course we can silence the Holy Spirit, but I don’t recommend it.
Remember to listen. Let go of your will and your way and live in God’s will to bring glory to Him
Pray to God and ask Him to show you His will for your life. And if you don’t have a relationship with God, pray and ask Him to come into your life today.
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:13
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
John 14:26
“even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
John 14:17
