Are You Worthy?
Are you worthy?
Verse of the Day: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:”
Ephesians 1:3
It’s a question I often ask myself, am I worthy of God’s blessings? I know people must ask this question. At some point in our Christian walk we question things. We wonder if God exist. We ponder whether or not we deserve to be saved. People ask whether or not they are worthy of eternal life in heaven. It doesn’t mean we don’t believe, it’s just human nature.
In response, I ask this, is the alternative any better? I would rather have faith, and give my life to God then to live a life of sin in denial that God exist. There is one certainty, one fact that is undeniable; we are going to die here on earth. This life is going to end. So at the end of this life, do you want all that heaven has to offer, or all that hell has to offer? And in between that, wouldn’t you want the blessings of our almighty God?
We are worthy of God’s saving grace and we are worthy of salvation. And as much as you believe that you are not worthy of His blessings, you are.
For a long time I lived outside of God’s Will and in a life of sin. I believed in God but I didn’t place my belief on God. I placed all my belief on me.
I use to equate my rewards with being blessed but it was nothing more than worldly earnings. If we were able to afford something I used to say I was blessed. I wasn’t blessed I just put enough money aside to be able to afford something. Or if something went my way at work or in my personal life, I believed at the time I was blessed. These weren’t blessings, not because I was living outside God’s Will, but because it wasn’t something that God blessed me with.
Don’t get me wrong, God will bless us even as we live outside His Will. At the time I didn’t understand it, but as I learned when the blessings were from God, I understood what they were when I didn’t deserve them. Make sense? God Will provide even when we aren’t obedient or when we don’t believe. Because imagine the value when we do believe or become obedient. It makes us worthy! And not just with blessings, but with grace and forgiveness.
I remember about a year and a half ago as Ashley and I went through a rough patch in our rough patch. I fell on my face begging God to ease my pain. And when I say I fell on my face, I threw myself at Him. I exposed every weakness I had, because I had nothing left to keep inside. And in this moment, I feel like God blessed me. He didn’t magically lift my pain, even though He could have. He didn’t snap His fingers and fix things. I didn’t stand up and feel like I was immediately better. But I felt Him comfort me. It was something I never felt before. It was something I would never be able to explain. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t need to. I felt blessed. I felt that even though our life was upside down, He was turning it right side up. Not by everyone else’s standards, but by His. This was a blessing.
Our blessings come in many shapes and forms. Some blessings we will never see. And sometimes we will simply be a blessing to someone else.
I can’t explain every answered prayer or blessing. But I can explain that we have an amazing God that does answer prayers and bless those that bring Glory to Him.
My life could be viewed as being in absolute disarray and hopeless at times given my current situation. But to me, I am blessed. I am blessed to have the family, the friends, the church, the wife and the relationship that I have with God. As often as people see blessings as something they get, I see it as something to give. I am blessed that I am able to bring glory to God through my devotion and obedience to Him, my marriage, my family, through my church and through my friends.
I encourage you to start a journal of answered prayers and blessings. If you truly want to see the wonders that God provides in your life, look back at your journal. It’s all the proof I need that God is present in our lives.
“And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.”
Romans 15:29
“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.”
Deuteronomy 28:1-2
