Where is God?

Where is God?

“And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.”

‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭8:6‬

Unfortunately the people of Jerusalem put God second in their lives and their lives were falling apart.  And during that time - God was the Law.

God was the most important thing in life. And yet, still people wandered from Him. They worshipped less, praised less and glorified Him less.

Today is no different. We check off the boxes each day or each week. We check our streak stats, head to church once a week, say a prayer and read a devotion. But is God truly leading our lives?  Is He in every decision in our life or are we still wondering why things go wrong because we try to be the answer?

God has been made a God of convenience. We only go to God when we think we need Him.

In the verse above, Nehemiah had gathered the people of Jerusalem together.  Their lives were broken and torn apart. He gathered them so that Ezra could read the Law. They worshipped and praised God. They showed reverence. They had become a people who had fallen away from God and as a result, their lives were being torn apart.

In today’s society we have no problem placing so many other things as priorities in our lives. And then we question why so many things go wrong.

We live for ourselves and wonder why our finances, relationships and lives are broken, cracked or flawed.

Everyone wants to point the finger or blame the other person. We either want to have all the attention on us or give it to someone else.  We are so caught up in our politics, sports, hobbies, social and professional lives that God becomes second or third - maybe he doesn’t even make the list.

Where is our attention to God?

Our faith comes at convenience. We pray, read and live our lives for God when it suits us. Not Him. And yet, we wonder why our lives are broken or torn apart.

And maybe life isn’t awful. It just moves a long and goes from one day to another, one month to the next and before you know it, time has passed, kids have grown, people we love have died and life is a whole lot shorter.

It’s time to put God at the front of your life.

It doesn’t have to be a public display for everyone to see. He just has to be the most important thing in your life. He has to be prayed to, worshipped, put in your life, lived every day and glorified because He is our God.

That is the hardest thing for people to do. To put God in front of every single thing in their life.

We shouldn’t question why things happen if we choose not to put God in our lives.

God is the answer to every problem.

“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭8:10‬

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬
